Nature and Personality

Three traits define Fernando. One is physical confidence: he builds his body, and he trusts it. Another is a warm patience that anchors the people around him. The third is a quiet decisiveness. He knows when to hold on, and he knows when to let go.

He is the most grounded member of his circle of geniuses. Steven dreams of saving the world, and Zou dreams of other worlds. Fernando swims, spars, and bikes through the real one.

This groundedness makes him the stabilizer of his group. He stages playful interventions to drag Zou back to his studies. He talks Steven through his hardest moral crises. He is also the one who walks away when love demands it. He comes back when it matters.

The HD Club

Fernando holds IQ 161. Together with Steven (180) and Zou Xiang-Yi (171), the trio sums to 512, which is 200 in hexadecimal. The three friends named their circle the “Hexadecimal Ducenti Club”, the HD Club, after that sum. The name doubles as encouragement: duplex centum, double hundred.

The club has an unwritten fourth member, Helena Irawan. Her 154 would raise the sum to 666. The club rarely mentions its arithmetic in front of her. She is a devout Christian, and the joke would land badly.

Education and Career

Fernando chose medicine for an unserious reason. He wanted a close look at male bodies. Cadavers disappointed him: most had lived badly, and it showed.

He stayed anyway, because the machinery of the human body won him over. The beauty of its workings held him, and the unserious reason faded.

He took his medical degree alongside Steven, Zou, and Helena. He followed it with a surgical specialization, and he serves as a resident at the Sejahtera Clinic, co-owned by Steven and Zou.

His career runs in stages.

He served as a military doctor in the Indonesian National Army (TNI) first. The posting took him away from home for long stretches, and it trained him to work under pressure. He left the service for the civilian esoteric world, and the Department of State (DoS) of the Kuker Group picked him up. The DoS runs on networks of professionals who trade favors and information. Fernando brought a network of his own: the showbiz industry of Southeast Asia.

That network grew from a parallel career. Fernando is a talent of the Kuker Multinational Mediatainment Corporation (KMM Corp.). His modeling and acting jobs span East Asia, as far as South Korea. The travel blogs, the shoots, and the premieres are a cover, and they are also a genuine second career.

The showbiz circuit hides the movements of a DoS agent better than any cover identity could.

The first in his extended family to study abroad, he carried the expectations of an entire clan on his back.

He paid them off with a career that spans three worlds: medicine, show business, and espionage.

Military and Esoteric Service

Fernando is a member of the Mobile Task Force Alpha-19 “The Archangels”, alongside Steven and Zou. The Intelligence Agency formed the team at the request of Anderson Pondalissido. The three had made their first public appearance during the Denefasan invasion of 2022. The team wears etoantech Archangel Exoarmor, and it specializes in Denefasan forces and Denefasan-reinforced enemies.

The armor changes what Fernando is. It grants him perfect kinesthetic sense, added agility, and added strength. Within the team he specializes in offensive attacks, where Steven handles rapid response and Zou shields the civilians.

By 2027 he serves in a second unit. MTF Alpha-47 “Samsara”, a task force of DoN under GaFE, deals with the Apex Souls. Fernando stands in its 1st Fireteam, the Iron Fists, beside Sgt. Pride Loudgulf, Steven, Zou, and Barong Asu.

Personal Relationships

  • Steven Pontirijaris: his first love. Fernando confessed his love to Steven in their youth. The confession went badly. It shook Steven hard, and it fed a prejudice that took years to overcome. It also preceded an attempted assault on Steven by Alexander Armaniputra, a well-known manhunter.

Fernando stayed anyway. Steven made peace with him, then accepted him fully. The two became best friends. The friendship survived the confession, and it outlasted everything that followed.

  • Zou Xiang-Yi: his partner. Their start was indirect. Fernando initially helped Zou court Helena, and the help turned into something else.

The relationship endures a hard test. The parents of Zou reject the relationship. They pressure him to marry a woman and father a son.

Fernando offers to step aside. Zou refuses to let him go.

What holds them together is patience. Fernando understands the structure and routine that Zou needs. He builds a life around them. His pet name for Zou is Hin, Thai for stone. It echoes the online nickname of Zou, Mr. Stone.

  • Helena Irawan: her first love, not his.

    Helena carried a secret crush on Fernando for years, and Fernando knew. He confronted her about it once, plainly. He told her that her husband loved her. He said that he himself could not love women, the way Daniel could. He asked her to let him go, before she even considered dating Steven. She called his argument a lie. Both were right, and it changed nothing between them.

  • Daniel Ashton: his best buddy in two hobbies at once. The great-grandfather of Steven shares his love of automobiles, motorbikes, and martial arts, with a firm grasp of many fighting styles. In a later era, after the Charles era, Ashton refers to him as Tawan.

  • Kang Hae-In and Yang Seung-Min: his cousins. Hae-In is his closest relative in the esoteric world, and the link through which he knows Tee Arthit Watthuprasongkh.

Nicknames: Sun and Tawan

His surname carries a sun in it. Suryantara comes from surya, the sun. The nickname Sun followed him from his circle of friends.

Tee Arthit Watthuprasongkh, a friend of the family, calls him Mr. Sun. He also calls him Mr. Tawan, because tawan means sun in Thai, as Arthit also does.

When Arthit and Fernando appear together, their friends complain that the atmosphere turns too bright. They blame the Double Suns.

Hobbies and Perks

  • Martial arts: he trains in gym, martial art classes, and swimming.

    He keeps the practice of a man who expects to use it.

  • Biking: an avid biker, he has explored most of Surabaya.

    He rides an average of 25 kilometers a day, with a viewing range of ten meters to each side. That pace covers roughly half a square kilometer a day. He needs about ten years to ride every street of the city at least once.

  • Automobiles and motorbikes: he knows machines as well as he knows bodies.

    This taste made him fast friends with Daniel Ashton, who knows both topics along with several martial art styles.

  • Food: an omnivore without qualms, with one true love: authentic Japanese food, uncooked.

    Sashimi above all, with an inhumane portion of wasabi by the standards of his friends. He eats wasabi plain.

  • Drinks: tea and milk.

    He can tell different teas and milks apart with a stunning accuracy. He treats both with the seriousness of a sommelier.

Post-2025

The death of Helena broke the group. Steven moved to Medan and opened a grocery store. Daniel opened a clinic beside it.

Fernando chose a further road. He joined the KukerVenus Program, the Venus colonization initiative of KukerCorp, and left Earth behind.
